Cathay Pacific Baggage Allowance: Cabin Bags, Checked Baggage & Fees

Flying with Cathay Pacific? Check cabin baggage, checked-baggage allowances and fare differences before you travel.

Cathay Pacific aircraft with cabin luggage and travel essentials for an international flight.

Cathay Pacific uses a relatively straightforward baggage system, with cabin baggage included across its main fare families and checked baggage allowances based on the cabin and fare you have booked.

Economy passengers can take one cabin bag measuring up to 56 × 36 × 23cm and weighing up to 7kg, together with one small personal item up to 40 × 30 × 15cm.

The personal item should be small enough to fit under the seat in front of you, while the larger cabin bag is intended for the overhead locker. Premium Economy passengers receive the same main cabin-bag dimensions, although their overall baggage allowance is more generous.

Checked baggage is provided on Cathay Pacific's main Economy fares, including Economy Light. Economy Light includes one checked bag weighing up to 23kg, while Economy Essential and Economy Flex include two checked bags of up to 23kg each.

Premium Economy and the premium cabins provide higher checked-baggage allowances, so passengers should always check the entitlement attached to their individual booking.

As with any international journey, cabin baggage must also comply with the security rules applying at your departure and connecting airports. Liquids, gels and aerosols may therefore be subject to the familiar 100ml container restrictions, while items such as power banks and spare lithium batteries have specific cabin-baggage requirements.

This guide explains Cathay Pacific's cabin bag and personal-item limits, checked-baggage allowances, fare differences, liquid rules, excess baggage and common restrictions, helping you understand what you can take before you arrive at the airport.

  • Premium cabins: Premium Economy, Business and First have higher baggage allowances, so check the allowance attached to your specific fare.

  • Checked bag size: A standard checked bag should normally stay within 158cm total dimensions (length + width + height).

  • Maximum individual bag weight: No single checked bag can weigh more than 32kg.

  • Extra baggage: Additional baggage can be purchased, and buying it in advance may cost less than arranging it at the airport.

  • Connecting flights: If another airline operates part of your journey, check which carrier's baggage rules apply to the complete itinerary.

  • Liquids still follow airport rules: Your Cathay Pacific cabin allowance does not override airport-security restrictions on liquids, gels and aerosols.
